About Calico Fish House

Located at 16600 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA 92649, Calico Fish House operates as a seafood restaurant serving Huntington Beach in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.

I was prepared to love this place. I've been a fan of Chef Gruel for a long time, cooked some of his recipes, and made a special trip to the Calico to taste his food. First, we ordered the Soft and Salty rolls; based on the description, I expected something spectacular. They looked good, and tasted fine, but the lobster butter was... tasteless is the best way to describe it. For the main dish, we ordered Cioppino and Garlic shrimp, tempura-fried. Both came loaded with chunks of broccoli and cauliflower; prepared right, those can be superb. In this execution, they were... chunks of broccoli and cauliflower, with hardly any taste to them at all. Garlic Shrimp was pretty good, though not as intense as I would have liked. The Ciopino tried to make up with quantity for what it lacked in quality. There were a lot of fish chunks and mussels, and a couple of small octopus clumps. The broth, though, was bland, bland, bland. I've had better Cioppino... well, pretty much anywhere I tried this, one of my favorite dishes. The Margarita I ordered was very rough, with hardly any sweetness offsetting the bite of lime and tequila. Overall, a huge disappointment, food-wise. The place itself is v

Excellent dinner at Calico Fish House! So thankful to find a seafood restaurant that doesn't cook with seed oils. They can also have many gluten free options. The chips and lobster dip and the lobster deviled eggs were both gluten free and seed oil free. (I was a little concerned about the mayo, but the chef confirmed no seed oil in the mayo.) And they were delicious. They fry in beef tallow. My husband was thrilled to get fish and chips without seed oil. My sea bass was incredible. No gluten free dessert though. Great service and location on PCH!

Fresh fish and raw oysters. Great draft beers. Our group of 5 had a great time here. The himachi cheeks were huge and perfectly crispy. Everything was delicious and the staff was very accommodating. Would definitely come back.

We have been wanting to tryCalicos for a long time since we drive past it regularly. Finally had dinner there tonight and we were not disappointed. We started with the chips and lobster dip appetizer which was crazy good! My wife had the seared Ahi with the spinach and rice, and it was delicious. I had the yellowtail with a side of fries. The yellowtail was cooked to perfection and the house made fries with the peels still on the potatoes are extra good. Our server Cruz took excellent care of us; that's him in the photo. We will definitely be back and likely very soon

The waitress was great, food was good. We got the fish tacos, too much sauce but great flavor just have to eat fast, otherwise the tortilla falls apart. Second meal, garlic shrimp. Good, but wouldn’t order again.
